The weather is getting warmer, which means many of you are going to use your deck for entertaining guests. An outdoor space like this is a luxury to have – it provides more room for people to move around and reduce the potential for damage to your home’s interior. Whatever activity you have in mind, be it an afternoon cookout or some parlor games with friends and family, you’d want this part of your home to be as fun and inviting as possible.
1. Clean Your Deck
After the past few months of harsh weather, your outdoor space will probably need some care and maintenance. Get it ready for your activities in the upcoming months by cleaning it with soapy water using a garden hose or pressure washer. Also, check its components for any problems like loose boards, exposed nails or splinters. Consider sealing your wooden deck so it looks new again.
2. Make It Appealing in the Evening Hours
Every deck installer recommends putting adequate lighting in and around your deck. After all, some summer activities may extend to after sundown. Consider architectural lanterns at either side of each step leading to your deck to create an interesting ambiance. Depending on the activity that will take place on your deck, you have the option to use string or table lightings or even tiki torches.
3. Create Some Shade
The next few months can get hot so make sure to protect your friends and family while they are on your deck. Place a canopy that covers the entire deck area or an umbrella right in the middle of a table and chair setup. To make the place feel cooler, use fans, misters and light-colored furniture.
